I have been fairly busy lately with work and a few other odd jobs here and there. Main reason is I’m working towards launching my first ever commercially viable website with a business model and everything… all those years studying business planning at uni did actually come in handy.
Now I know a lot of up and coming web developers do something very similar to me, plenty of hope and vision and ideas of making the internet a better place. Not only that, but they have the skills and coding ability to be able to probably pull it off in a couple of months. They are probably connected on a few social networks and could possibly launch the site with a bit of Internet fanfare. So where are they lacking?
Well with me its a few things, time management and also commitment.
So I’m going to be logging this project of mine for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, for my own benefit. I hope to read back over this in a years and see where I started and where I ended up. And hope it ends better than how it started.
Secondly, I would like feedback on a few things. I know there are plenty of other people out there in my situation that can offer me some great advice, or even get involved.
So What is the Start Up?
It’s going to be a social news site. “Oh Noes!!” you scream, “not another one!!” and you would be right. However I have a few tricks up my sleave to differientate myself from the diggs and delicious’s out there. And if you are lucky, I might even share the code.
The clever ones out there would notice the Drigg post the other week, and put 2 and 2 together.
Well it is up and working fine, except for one small catch.
The design.
I cannot design to save my life.
So I’m putting the call out there for designers who can provide me a sexy little social news website. I have some ideas and features that I can implement with jQuery, etc. I just need someone to knock up the photoshop for me.
