During my last semster of uni, I studied natural language processing. It was particularly interesting in doing information retrieval and document processing. Anyway… I digress.
The final week of classes we briefly looked at the semantic web. For those of you who are unsure about what this is, according to W3 Schools, the Semantic Web is:
The Semantic Web describes the relationships between things (like A is a part of B and Y is a member of Z) and the properties of things (like size, weight, age, and price)
I personally believe that the more web developers start to take this on, it will be slowly moving towards what I am thinking should become Web 3.0 (how come Web 2.0 didn’t last no where near as long as Web 1.0?) - that being data formatted for both humans and machines.
After surfing around the net, I couldn’t find much in layman’s terms on how to get started with the Semantic Web. So as I do the research, I will tweet some links, so Follow me on Twitter. As well as this, I will be writing proper tutorial posts and contribute as much as I can to the ordinary developer and the up and comers.
My first step though is to put up some information on Microformats. This standard has been around for a while, and I believe that its the first step into getting into the Semantic Web.
So stay tuned for more information!
